A Famosa is the massive construction that builded by the Portuguese, but the A Famosa was captured by the Dutch in turn in 1641. This had make the Dutch have a exclusive lick towards the spice trade, until the Sultan Kedah was convinced by the British East India Company to build a port in the island of Penang in 1785. This whole idea of British was just to ensure the security of their ports for the ship to China. In 1819 Britain sent Sir William Raffles to establish a trading post in Singapore. These three British colonies - Penang, Malacca, and Singapore known as the Straits Settlements.
