Malaysia - Independence and Onward: 1957 - Present




The independence of Malaya does not relief the Prime Minister Tunku Abdul Rahman from complexes. The first of which was to determine exactly what territories would be included in the new state. In 1961, the term "Malaysia" came into being after Tunku convinced Singapore, Sabah, and Sarawak to join Malaya in a federal union. However Singupore, went out from the federal union in 1965 peacefully.

Colonial Malaysia 1511 AD - 1957 AD


Malaya is the name give to peninsula by British when they coupled with the white Rajahs in the Borneo until the Japanese invaded and ousted them in 1942. During this time, large numbers of Chinese fled to the jungle and established an armed resistance which, after war's end, would become the basis for an infamous communist insurgency. In 1945, when W.W.II ended, Britain resumed control again, but Malaya's independence movement had matured and organized itself in an alliance under Tunku Abdul Rahman. When the British flag was finally lowered in Kuala Lumpur's Merdeka Square in 1957, Tunku became the first prime minister of Malaya.

Colonial Malaysia 1511 AD - 1957 AD

As the European influence started to spread all over the peninsula with their own political strategy. While the local Malay sultanates continued on their own affairs. Johor became the new Muslim trading centre which replaced by Perak by some time later. This had make immigrants from Sumatra and Celebes started to enter the peninsula in large numbers. In the late 1860's, there number of Malay kingdom had started to fight for the throne of Perak, which had make the Britain to take a step to ensure its influence in the peninsula were spreaded. Involvemnt of the Britain in this issue, caused Malas to sign an peace agreement, the Pangkor Agreement 1874.

Colonial Malaysia 1511 AD - 1957 AD

A Famosa is the massive construction that builded by the Portuguese, but the A Famosa was captured by the Dutch in turn in 1641. This had make the Dutch have a exclusive lick towards the spice trade, until the Sultan Kedah was convinced by the British East India Company to build a port in the island of Penang in 1785. This whole idea of British was just to ensure the security of their ports for the ship to China. In 1819 Britain sent Sir William Raffles to establish a trading post in Singapore. These three British colonies - Penang, Malacca, and Singapore known as the Straits Settlements.

At the inauguration of the 16th century, there was no non-muslim craft was allowed to wharf in the Arabian ports and the spice trade of eastern was mapped through Egypt. Awaring the significants of having a open route to India and the far east, The competing Europeans, they wanted to have their own port at the source of it. This make Alfonso de Albuquerque that lead the Portuguese in the 1511 to enter into Malacca's harbor with an opened fire using canon. This has brought down the golden age of Malacca.

Golden Age of Malacca 1400 AD - 1511 AD




Malacca was founded in 1400 by a fleeing Palembang Prince named Parameswara. The location of Malacca was perfectly located for trade. Malacca become the most influential port in Southeast Asia in just 50 years. Islam was introduce to Malacca by Arabs traders, their arrival to Malacca has brought it one step higher. The Sultan's term that been used by our rulers were influence of the Arabs traders. Malacca's port was the most secure trading port at the time, it was always guarded by alliances with outlying tribes and port. These system had make sure the nightmare of the region is demolished, pirates. Malacca established a kind of regional "navy" that policed the local waters and escorted friendly vessels.

Golden Age of Malacca 1400 AD - 1511 AD




The Hindu kingdoms of peninsular Malaysia were shadowed by the neighbouring kingdoms in Cambodia and Indonesia until the 15th century. Srivijaya was the strongest kingdom among of them and the first great maritime kingdom in the Malay archipelago. Based on the records of Indian, Arabs and Chinese traders it was known as the best trading port in the region. The influence of the Srivijaya kingdom start decline as the other entrepots merged at around 13th century. The lost in the centralpower and the nuisances of pirates were haunting the entreports.
